Getting around can be expensive all over the country- but it can feel extra pricey as a student in the capital.

It might be a good idea to get yourself a student Oyster card- it'll save you 30% on monthly/yearly travelcards or bus/tram passes. And after you finish your course you can keep using it as a normal Oyster too!

This weekend Sat 13 Aug - Sun 14 Aug access to Boris bikes (Santander Cycles) is FREE! It's usually £2 per day for access, the first 30 minutes are free, then it's £2 for every additional 30 minutes you use the bike after.

BUT, if you keep docking the bike every 30 minutes you could make it a totally free day. Not that we'd suggest this, but there are a few Boris bike pub crawls you can try and follow with a drink every 30 minutes!

Just enter the code FREE2016 when you're at the cycle docking centre to avoid the £2 fee.

Either download the Santander Cycles app to book a bike, or just tap a contactless card or Oyster at the bike bays, and they'll be free for <30 minute rides on Saturday and Sunday.

If you've got a device with Apple Pay and a Mastercard you qualify for free TFL travel every Monday from Mon 29 Feb to Mon 14 Mar.

Just use your iPhone or Apple Watch to pay for tubes or buses just like you'd use an Oyster card and you won't be charged.

Transport for London is offering free travel on tube, bus and any other kind of journey where you'd usually use an Oyster or contactless payment card on two Fridays coming up: 14th & 28th Nov 2014.

To be able to travel for free on these dates, you just need to be using a contactless MasterCard (not Visa unfortunately). You will be charged as normal then refunded within 28 days.
