We all LOVE a good takeaway, and after a long day at work or uni, there’s nothing better than getting food delivered to you instead of facing the supermarket and making the effort to cook something. Unfortunately ordering in too much can be pretty unhealthy for your wallet, BUT there’s always a way to save a bit of money on the occasional takeaway.
If you live in a larger town or city, then it’s very likely that Deliveroo are operating near you. If you’ve never ordered from Deliveroo before you can get £10 free credit with code bronnih - AND after you’ve used it for the first time you’ll get a code of your own to pass round your friends and family, they’ll get £10 free, and so will you for referring them.
Deliveroo can bring you food from Nando’s, Pizza Express, Yo! Sushi and Byron, as well as independent restaurants and takeaways.
Live in central London (Zone 1 and parts of Zone 2)? Then you can also get £10 free credit from Uber Eats with code eats-5hr8k. There are tonnes of restaurants on there, and like Deliveroo, you can also refer all your friends to earn yourself a bit of extra credit too. Yum.
It isn’t exactly free, but you can get £10 off a £15 spend with Amazon Restaurants (which is very similar to Uber Eats and Deliveroo) with code AMAZON10 - but, you need to be an existing Prime member (£79 a year, or £39 for students), and live in central London. There’s no referral scheme for Amazon Restaurants, either.
How to save on takeaways
Most of these freebies, are pretty much a one-time-only free meal (unless you have A LOT of friends), but here are some tips that should get you a cheaper meal every time.
Opt to collect your food
If you live close enough to collect your order, you can make a substantial saving by making the 5 minute walk. A number of independent takeaways offer special offers for collection only, and Domino’s has different -better- deals for people who pick up their pizza.
Look out for student discounts
Hungryhouse offer 20% off for students who sign up with their .ac.uk account, but it’s only for one order.
If you have a local takeaway you love, it’s worth asking whether they offer student discount too, you might be in luck!
Use generic discount codes
A lot of takeaways who provide online ordering offer vouchercodes and cashback offers frequently - check some of our most popular takeaway companies for short term offers:
Check delivery menus
Ordering directly with a takeaway over the phone can sometimes net you free sides, or even better. Companies like JUST EAT and hungryhouse charge takeaways for using their service, so sometimes they’ll offer deals for customers who order directly. Check delivery menus for offers like this, or if you’re really cheeky - call them up and ask!
You can get between 1% and 5% cashback on all sorts of takeaways you can order online from - check out the dedicated takeaways sections on Quidco and Top Cashback for a list of sites that offer cashback.
