Wetherspoon's will be dropping their prices EVEN LOWER one day next week

Spoons is the venue of choice for cheap pints and big pitchers of sweet, fizzy cocktails.

It's a no-frills establishment that we flock to for hangover breakfasts and low cost pre-drinks.

The prices are about to get even lower, though, as Wednesday 20th September they're knocking 7.5% off all food and drink in protest of high taxes for pubs.

Next Wednesday is Tax Equality Day. Wetherspoon's are lowering their prices because, although there is no VAT on supermarket food, there's a whopping 20% added onto food in pubs and restaurants.

Spoons want this to be reduced to 5%, which they believe will revive the hospitality industry, as pubs are currently shutting at higher rates than ever.

Their CEO Tim Martin had this to say:

'Pubs suffer a huge disadvantage, paying about 16 pence in business rates per pint versus about two pence for supermarkets.
In addition there is a huge VAT inequality and unfairness.
A reduction in the level of VAT on a long-term basis will create a level playing field and generate growth and jobs in an important and vital industry – especially in beleaguered high streets.
We’re aiming to make it the busiest day of the entire year in our pubs and would urge other pub and restaurant operators to participate too.'

So, we get cheaper drinks, AND get to help job creation? Count us in!
