This guy just pranked a thief into giving his phone back

We've all experienced that gut-wrenching feeling of patting down our pockets and not being able to find our phone.

And then you desperately check Find My iPhone hoping, praying, crying that it'll turn up (and it never does).

But what happens when God blesses you and you get a text from your missing phone saying 'what's the passcode for my phone'?

Well, you seize the opportunity to play a ridiculous and slightly evil prank on the person who's stolen it in the hope it might just convince them to give it back, OF COURSE.

This exactly what Imgur user thelowflyingowl did, as he posted a series of messages between him and his sister's lost phone, in which he pranks (and eventually terrifies) the recipient into handing the phone in. Here's how it starts:

The thief texts him clearly pretending to be his sister, asking if he can remember the passcode for the phone, which is when thelowflyingowl starts to get real creative:

He starts pretending he's part of some kind of mob or gang, creating the illusion that the boss is pretty pissed at the owner of the phone, and then it just keeps escalating:

And just when you think this exchange couldn't really get weirder, the thief starts PLAYING ALONG. I mean what kind of MANIAC?!

The thief then attempts to pretend he's going to escape, but oh no, that doesn't work either:

This is when the thief seems to actually pause and think 'wtf is going on?'

Just when things couldn't get funnier, the thief mistakes the typo 'avery' to be a person, asking 'Who's Avery?' Incredible.

But thelowflyingowl turns this to his advantage, claiming 'you will certainly find out', at which points, this happens:

Literally, how an EARTH did that work? Serious, serious kudos. Clearly pretending to be part of some kind of mafia is the new, more effective Find your iPhone.
