Tesco giving out food on most depressing day of the year (today)
Tesco are giving out free food today, to combat Blue Monday - the "most depressing day of the year".
Between 3:30pm and 5:30pm Tesco will be giving out free fruit at stores across the UK. Unfortunately, the food they are giving away is the most depressing food in existence: fruit.
Tesco’s corporate responsibility director Josh Hardie said:
"We know today is the day people are most likely to be feeling the January blues, and we hope a free piece of fruit will help our customers feel a little bit happier as they shop with us."
The fruit will include kiwis, apples, clementines and blueberries. Not bacon.
What is Blue Monday?
Blue Monday is said to be the most depressing day in the year, as calculated by this formula:
[W+(D-d)]xTQ/MxNA – where W is weather, D is debt, d monthly salary, T time since Christmas, Q time since failure of attempt to give something up, M low motivational level and NA the need to take action.
That happens to be today (we're sure you did the maths). It's essentially the day when people have no money, and have little to no motivation in the form of Christmas being just around the corner. The formula was invented in 2005 for a TV show in America, and for reasons unknown has been accepted as fact by most of the world's media.
The free food will be available today only. If you have a case Blue Monday blues, head to Tesco today for free fruit. Hopefully that won't make you too much more depressed.
