Student tries to impress girl, gets trapped between two buildings for four hours

A student trying to impress a girl ended up getting himself wedged between two buildings for four hours and had to get rescued by firemen.

Grant Birdsong, 22, met a girl in a club in Pittsville, Pensylvania on Monday night. Later that night, he took her to some local rooftops and, in an attempt to impress her, he tried to jump to the roof of a Mexican restaurant from a bagel shop.

Unfortunately, he didn't make it all the way, and ended up wedged between Qdoba Mexican restaurant and Bruegger's Bagels in a 16inch shaft until the fire service smashed the wall down.

The gap between the restaurants, as seen on Google Maps.

Pittsburg Public Safety released images of the rescue attempt, in which they had to smash a hole in the wall of Qdoba.

Unforseen idiocy

Grant failed to jump the gap and fell between the buildings, getting trapped as the gap was only between 16 and 18 inches wide. Whilst it's pretty fortunate that he did get stuck (rather than fall the whole two storeys to the ground) he did end up breaking his ankle in the slide down.

The city’s public safety spokeswoman, told CBS Pittsburgh it took nearly four hours to free Grant from his new home:

"The young man met a girl, brought her up to a rooftop and decided to impress her by leaping from one roof to the next".

"We had people on the roof. One of the paramedics did rappel down three stories to render assistance and also provide us some landmarks as to where he was. Once the paramedic was there we reassessed where he was and cut the second hole."

Fortunately, after a lot of work, Grant was freed and had only suffered minor injuries.

The Mexican restaurant posted a sign outside their door the following day, reading:

Bruegger's Bagels wrote on their sign:

"Attention Bruegger's Guests! Today, August 23rd, we will not be opening til 7am due to the man who thought it would be a good idea to jump our rooftop to impress his girlfriend and got stuck between the building walls!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the inconvenience! Please see Manager for a couupon on your next visit! Thank you!"

So far, there is no word on whether all this actually impressed his date.
