Has the KFC secret spice blend just been made public?
Colonel Sanders’ secret blend of 11 herbs and spices might have finally been released to the public by a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Could this mean we could finally recreate the KFC taste at home?
The paper asked KFC whether the recipe was accurate and received a pretty vague reply about it, so we think they could be onto something!
He found the handwritten recipe in an old photo album that used to belong to Colonel Sanders’ wife, but is now in the possession of his nephew, Joe Ledington. His nephew told the paper that the handwriting didn’t belong to the Colonel himself, but he’s sure that this is the correct recipe from when he used to help his uncle mix the spices together as a boy.
So, here’s the recipe:
11 spices — mix with 2 cups white flour
- 2/3 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 tablespoon thyme
- 1/2 tablespoon basil
- 1/3 tablespoon oregano
- 1 tablespoon celery salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried mustard
- 4 tablespoons paprika
- 2 tablespoons garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 3 tablespoons white pepper
There’s nothing too crazy in there, and we reckon your average Tesco or Sainsbury’s will stock all of these ingredients if you wanted to try and recreate KFC at home. Still though, it doesn’t really make it in any cheaper than our free KFC hack!
