Everyone is confused by this International Women's Day message
It's International Women's Day today. A day to celebrate women and feminist icons, from Emmeline Pankhurst to Rosa Parks.
But one Australian Senator has baffled the internet with his choice of tribute. He decided to praise the Queen on International Women's Day. Which is fine. To each their own.
But Senator Eric Abetz decided to praise her for demonstrating "that hard work and commitment earn you far more respect than demanding that people make way and artificially promote you simply because of your sex" and people on the internet have gone into meltdown.
People are largely puzzled because her wealth and power are entirely inherited.
SHE’S THE BLOODY QUEEN. pic.twitter.com/4llnHLUSrA— Mark Di Stefano 🤙🏻 (@MarkDiStef) March 8, 2017
@MarkDiStef Inherited wealth ? First Class all the way on the tax-payer ? Oh how difficult her life must have been ☹️— Nanso44 (@Nanso44) March 8, 2017
@MarkDiStef I nearly fell off my chair at the hard work part.— iamdan (@virusdan3) March 8, 2017
And because if she'd have had a brother, she wouldn't have inherited the role either.
And some people are just annoyed at the unflattering he posted of the queen.
Nice shitposting, Senator.
