Aussies want to change their currency name to 'Dollarydoos'

Over 60,000 Australians have signed a petition to get the name of the Australian Dollar changed to "Dollarydoos", in order to increase their value.

The petition on explains.

"Due to global commodity prices plummeting, the Australian economy is struggling."

"That's why we need something to stimulate the Australian economy and that something is changing the name of the Australian currency to 'Dollarydoos'. This will make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency. If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible. So please sign this petition to get our nations leaders to finally act on this important issue."

Simpsons reference

The reference comes from this scene “Bart vs. Australia,” where an Australian dad freaks out that his son has spent “900 Dollarydoos” on phone calls.

The creator of the petition, Thomas Probst, has contacted Treasurer Scott Morrison to see if the popular proposal has his backing, presumably in the usual way:

Dollarydoos? That's weird, I'd have called them chuzzwazzers!
